A child laughs once, a pet turns toward the camera, or a friend finishes a performance. You may want a short video and a still photograph from the same moment. The useful distinction in this comparison is who selects the still: you, while reviewing the clip, or a camera feature that curates a small set automatically.

That changes the work rather than eliminating it. You still need to check whether the selected expression or moment is the one you intended. A system's preferred frame may be technically usable yet miss the gesture that matters to your family. Think about your tolerance for accepting a small suggested set versus controlling the selection yourself.

This can fit a performance or another recording you already intended to keep. You can review the footage with the context of the event in mind rather than accept a selection made at capture time. The trade-off is a manual pass through the timeline. If you rarely review your clips, the existence of that control will not itself create finished photographs.
A saved video frame is also not a promise of a sharp still. Subject movement and the recording choices still matter. Neither the export command nor automatic curation can establish, by itself, that a fleeting moment was captured with the detail you wanted. Avoid buying either phone on an unsupported claim that it rescues every difficult scene.
For an Apple Watch owner considering a switch
